ProNFS 1.2 - NFS client and server by LabtamDate: 31 January 2000 This page describes the New Features of our ProNFS product. After reading the documentation below, should you have any questions, please direct them to help@labtam-inc.com Major differences from Version 1.1 to Version 1.2 Bugs that have been fixed on Version 1.2 Major differences from Version 1.0.1 to Version 1.1 Bugs that have been fixed on Version 1.0.1 Major differences from Version 1.0 to Version 1.0.1 Bugs that have been fixed on Version 1.0 1. Major differences from the 1.1/Release:990907 version The following enhancements have been made: 1.1. LPD server: - the AIX "Rembak" print service may be used now(see below). The sending "/usr/lib/lpd/rembak" binary file is be skipped; - the "TextUnixToDos=..." setting provides the additional conversion of receiving text-files from Unix to DOS end-lines format; - the "FilterIsV=..." setting provides the "v" type (i.e. no convertation) to ALL incoming data files; - The ,"Courier New","Courier","" font face priority is supported, where the is the font face name from the "FontFace=..." setting of the ini-file (see below). - The "Network Printers" using logic is changed. The "Refresh" button (for network printers) is implemented. The list of network printers is saved into ini-file and is not refreshed each time LPD starts (only by "Refresh" button of the "Add Printer" dialog). 1.2. NFS-Client: - the "pingnfs.exe" utility is implemented to show all accessible NFS-Servers. 1.3. Installation procedure: - the "Only Configure" Installation mode is added. It is the "true" configuration-only mode. 1.4. Network support: - the "virtual" local IP address may be set now (see below) for TTSSH and other proxy-like cases.
2. The following bugs have been fixed: 2.1. NFS server: - correct access to System/Hidden files is provided. The hidden or system file doesn't get "permission denied" message; - correct access to opened files (such as running executable) is provided. 2.2. NFS-Client: - NFS-Client under Win98 may crash machine after screen-saver occurs; - NFS-Client may provide incorrect file length after explore->"Property" action. 2.3. Ftp: - incorrect Y2K files date sorting on local side was fixed. - incorrect processing of files/directories links with the '-' symbols in names was fixed; - incorrect processing of "dirname -> ." links was fixed;
3. Major differences from the 1.0.1/Release:990518 version The following enhancements have been made: 3.1. NFS-Client: - may work on a multi-home PC with a few IP addresses.
4. The following bugs have been fixed: 4.1. Telnet: - Fixed the incorrect change of the "AutoWrap" setting after the "AT386" type choice. 4.2. Ftp: - Fixed the incorrect files list display for some "VMS"-type hosts; 4.3. NFS-Server: - Fixed the incorrect processing of files with the "444" protection mask; - Fixed the incorrect calculation of large drives' volumes ( > 2GB); - Fixed the incorrect processing of large files' volumes ( > 2GB). 4.4. NFS-Client: - NFS-Client might crash in some Win98 versions; - Fixed the incorrect R/W positioning outside a file.
5. Major differences from the 1.0/Release:981116 version The following enhancements have been made: 5.1. XStartup: - some improvements were made. 5.2. NFS-Server: - corresponding hostnames are shown additionally to IP addresses of actual NFS-Clients; - NFS-Server provides German and/or French messages and text labels under the corresponding Windows national version. 5.3. Telnet: - some improvements were made (including some changes in the "terminfo.ini" file). 5.4. Ftp: - the "VMS" remote host type is processed correctly, the "Show hidden files" setting controls showing VMS file versions. 5.5. NFS-Client: - NFS-Client is installed by using the same Installation procedure without necessity to use "xwpnfs32.inf" file and "Control Panel"; - corresponding hostnames are shown additionally to IP addresses of NFS-Servers. This feature is controlled by corresponding On/Off setting to prevent timeouts because of possible DNS accessibility problems; - NFS-Clients might work incorrectly with non-mapped disks under Windows95/OSR2; - the "NFS-Servers list" was implemented additionally to the broadcast method of locating remote NFS-Servers. This list is the only way to connect NFS-Server which is out of the LAN (i.e. "old-style" broadcast method could not provide visibility of such servers); 5.6. Lpd: - Lpd now can process print jobs with primaryly undefined data length (the length field is 0 in description of the input data file); - Lpd provides German and/or French messages and text labels under the corresponding Windows national version.
6. The following bugs have been fixed: 6.1. XStartup: - a password with the 'P' ("capital P") letter at the first and last places was saved wrongly; 6.2. NFS-Server: - NFS-Server provided 100% CPU usage; - NFS-Server crashed after receiving of the "CALLIT" request. This request is the result of Unix "rup","rwho" or "rusers" commands; - the memory leaking (after each "ls -R" Unix command) was fixed; 6.3. Telnet: - some bugs were fixed (including wrong cursor positioning in some cases); --- 7.1. LPD server: - the "EnableRembak=1" line into "[LPDAEMON]" section enables to use the AIX "Rembak" print service. - the "TextUnixToDos=1" line into "[LPDAEMON]" section provides the Unix->DOS text conversion for text data files. - the "FilterIsV=1" line into "[LPDAEMON]" section provides the "v" type (i.e. no convertation) to ALL incoming data files; - The "FontFace=..." line into "[LPDAEMON]" sets the preferred font face name. 7.2. NFS-Server: - the "UseAttributesCache=0" may be added into the "[NFSSERVER]" section to let you change any once mounted removable drives (like CD, floppy...). Be ready that this setting decreases the NFS connection's performance. - the "[NFSSERVER]"/"NameConvertMode=0..3" was implemented but is not tested yet. Modes: 3-"as earlier", 2-"upper case", 1-"lower case", 0-"as is". 7.3. XWPNFS32 Client: - may be installed manually after X-server software installation from "XWPNFS32.W95" subdirectory of installed X-server software directory (see "XWPNFS32.W95\readme" text file for more information); - the "NFS-Servers list" was implemented additionally to the broadcast method of locating remote NFS-Servers. This list may be edited from the "Property" of the "XWPNFS32..." Windows Network client. 7.4. Network support: - the "[NETWORK]"/"MyIP=..." line provides the "virtual" local IP address. 7.5. Telnet: - the telnet.exe may be run with the "hostname" parameter to avoid the necessity to enter the hostname interactively;
8.1. Lpd: - printers on the remote Windows NT 4 hosts are unavailable from the local host with Windows NT 4 . 8.2. NFS-Server: - may have problems on a PC with a few IP addresses. 8.3. NFS-Client/Win95: - the PC must be restarted after you change the license "xwpdllid.dll" file. 8.4. Uninstallation: - uninstallation procedure does not remove components which were installed in additional (non-first) installation sessions. Such additional components must be removed manually. |
